Non-permanent Orthodontic Devices
There are many ways to straighten your pearly whites, and recent boosts in orthodontic technology make it possible to straighten your chompers without fixed appliances. There are many appliances for many different purposes, but we’ll draw attention to the fact just a few of them. Here are some removable orthodontic appliances you should know about:
Aligners. Unlike metal braces, orthodontic aligners are removable appliances. They’re see-through and practically invisible, and because they’re removable, you won’t have to worry about excessive cleaning of them because you can remove them when you eat.
Space maintainers. Space maintainers are used to keep gaps between your teeth when they’re needed, like when you lose a baby tooth before an adult one has been formed. Removable space maintainers are regularly formed from plastic and wire, used to retain open spaces.
Jaw repositioners. Jaw repositioning appliances, also called splints, are worn to keep the jaw aligned suitably. When your jaw is misaligned, eating, speaking and even breathing can become hard. Misaligned jaws can cause grave headaches, so jaw repositioners are great for people with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, also known as TMJ.
