Keeping Your Braces in Shape

To ensure optimal functionality, your braces need to be cared for well. Do you know how to protect and keep your braces clean?

Braces usually contain metal brackets and wires, but the metal is not designed to protect your mouth. If your mouth is ever at risk, so are your braces. This includes playing contact sports or participating in high-risk activities. You’ll want to wear a mouth guard or face mask when needed. You’ll also want to avoid chewy or sticky foods that can easily get lodged or wedged between your braces and teeth.

If the wires or brackets of your braces should ever fail due to improper use, please do not attempt to fix or repair them. Instead, cover the broken areas with orthodontic wax and seek orthodontic treatment at Shenandoah Valley Orthodontics immediately.

To keep your braces clean, please brush and floss your teeth every day. If flossing is impossible, you can switch to an alternative interdental tool such as a water flosser. If you have a retainer, always make sure to clean it often to keep it free of bacteria and contamination.

To learn more about maintaining your braces, contact Shenandoah Valley Orthodontics at 540-667-9662. Come visit Dr. Damon W. DeArment and our team at our orthodontic office in Winchester, Virginia by booking an appointment at your earliest convenience. Let us help you find your healthy smile.

We have had a fantastic experience here. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful. The scan on the phone for the Invisalign was very helpful and kept us from traveling over an hour for every appointment. Bonus-my daughter and I loved playing Pac-Man together while in the waiting room.

Wonderful staff and extremely friendly faces were abundant when I arrived to receive my Invisalign. My free consultation was a breeze and they were very helpful in any questions and made me feel like I had been a patient there for years. If you want to make your smile better I would without a doubt recommend Shenandoah Valley Orthodontics!
